About the European Health Psychology Research Consortium

Preserving empirical proceedings, behavioral medicine protocols, and preventive health epidemiology since 2017 from our archival bureau in Rotterdam, Netherlands.

Founding Mission and Archival History

The European Health Psychology Research Consortium was formally established in 2017 during the 31st Annual Conference of the European Health Psychology Society (EHPS 2017). Recognizing that critical empirical findings in occupational ergonomics, behavioral habit adherence, and preventive biomarker epidemiology were frequently fragmented across proprietary journals or lost after academic symposiums, a multinational cohort of behavioral scientists and clinical epidemiologists resolved to establish a permanent, open-access proceedings archive.

Operating continuously under the institutional masthead of the EHPS Behavioral Medicine & Preventive Health Archive (ehps2017.org), the Consortium provides an open-access repository for rigorous, peer-reviewed clinical monographs. Our mission is to democratize preventive medicine research, providing clinicians, occupational health officers, and scholars worldwide with free, unencumbered access to reproducible behavioral protocols.

Editorial Leadership: Dr. Lukas Vandenberg

The proceedings and scientific curation of the archive are directed by Dr. Lukas Vandenberg, PhD, FERP, who has served as Editorial Chair of Behavioral Medicine Proceedings since the Consortium’s inception in 2017.

Dr. Vandenberg completed his doctorate in Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Epidemiology at Erasmus University Rotterdam, followed by post-doctoral fellowships investigating occupational biomechanics and neuro-endocrine stress kinetics at the Karolinska Institute. His research focuses on the intersection between environmental stress, ciliary visual fatigue in video display terminal operators, and the autonomic neuro-immunological pathways that translate physical disorganization and chronic infection into systemic vascular inflammation.

Under Dr. Vandenberg's stewardship, the Archive has pioneered the integration of live mathematical calculation engines—such as our standardized Cohen's d and Number Needed to Treat (NNT) calculator—enabling clinicians to instantly translate continuous statistical effect sizes into tangible clinical treatment projections.

Editorial Board & Scientific Review Committee

The Consortium’s editorial board comprises distinguished European investigators spanning multiple disciplines:

  • Dr. Lukas Vandenberg, PhD, FERP — Editorial Chair; Behavioral Medicine & Occupational Biomechanics (Rotterdam, Netherlands).
  • Prof. Mette Lindqvist, MD — Associate Editor; Occupational Ophthalmology & Visual Ergonomics (Stockholm, Sweden).
  • Dr. Anouk van der Meer, MD, PhD — Associate Editor; Neuro-Epidemiology & Environmental Health Psychology (Utrecht, Netherlands).
  • Dr. Pieter Jan de Vries, DDS, PhD — Section Editor; Oral-Systemic Immunology & Periodontal Pathobiology (Amsterdam, Netherlands).
  • Dr. Henrik Klaasen, MD, PhD — Section Editor; Preventive Cardiology, Longevity Biomarkers & Exercise Physiology (Rotterdam, Netherlands).
  • Prof. Elena Rossi, MD, PhD — Section Editor; Nutritional Epidemiology, Microbiome Therapeutics & Chrono-Nutrition (Bologna, Italy).

Peer-Review Standards and Archival Charter

Publication in the EHPS Behavioral Medicine Archive requires adhering to stringent methodological benchmarks:

  1. Double-Blind Peer Review: Every submitted monograph undergoes rigorous double-blind evaluation by at least two independent expert referees, ensuring that evaluation focuses solely on methodological soundness and empirical integrity.
  2. Standardized Effect Metrics: All interventional trials must report standardized effect sizes (Cohen's d or Hedges' g), 95% confidence intervals, and Number Needed to Treat (NNT) calculated against verified baseline event rates.
  3. Open-Access Mandate (CC BY 4.0): We reject paywall commercialization. All proceedings are immediately published under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licenses, allowing unrestricted redistribution, translation, and adaptation with appropriate attribution.
  4. Zero Article Processing Charges (No APCs): To eliminate commercial bias, the Consortium levies zero submission or publication fees upon contributing authors. The archive is supported through non-commercial academic endowments and institutional consortium memberships.
